Biography
T.I. was born on 25th of September 1980 as Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr. in Riverdale, Georgia. His father suffered from Alzheimer’s and he was brought up by his grandparents. T.I. started rapping at the early age of nine, while he attended The Douglass High School. However, he later dropped out and spent his teenage years being a drug dealer. He was named TIP after his paternal grandfather and by the age 14 had been arrested for petty crimes several times. After signing up with Arista Records in 2001 and changed his name to T.I.
Early Life
His debut album was named “I’m Serious” and was released in October of 2001. This particular one did not do very well, even after many popular guest appearances the total of copies sold were no more than 163,000. When the album failed, T.I. was dropped by Arista and this led him to forming Grand Hustle Entertainment where T.I. and DJ Drama started making mix tapes. When he started making waves again with ‘Never scared’ he signed a joint deal with Atlantic Records.
His second album was “Trap Muzik” that was released in August of 2003 and became an instant hit. However, problems came soon after when he got arrested in March 2004 for violating his probation from previous drug convictions. However, even after his release he got in more trouble as he was accused of having threatened a man, possessing firearms without license, assaulting a female deputy officer and failing of completing the required hours of community services.
However, he did continue to work on his music even while in jail and released his third album ‘Urban Legend’ in November of 2004.
Career
T.I. has released 6 albums since 2001. These are: “I’m serious”, “Trap Muzik”, “Urban Legend”, “King”, “T.I vs T.I.P”, “Paper Trail” and “No Mercy”.
In 2006 he was nominated for two Grammies at the 48th Grammy Awards and also won Rap Artist of the Year, Rap Album Artist of the Year, Rap Album of the year and few other awards all in the same year.
He also has had an occasional though successful acting career with movies such as ATL, Takers and American Gangster. T.I. is a co producer for B.G.’s upcoming music album and also works with Mariah Carey, Young Dro, B.o.B and many other top celebrities by adding beats to their music. The singer has also produced the soundtrack for ‘Hustle and Flow’, worked as song writer for many stars like Bow Wow and Dr. Dre. “T.I’s road to Redemption” is his own MTV show!
