Biography
Scarlett Johansson was born November 22, 1984, in Manhattan to parents Karsten Olaf Johansson, an architect, and Melanie Sloan, a producer. She hails from a Jewish family and has an older sister, an older brother, and a twin brother. When her parents divorced when she was 13, she became close to her grandmom, Dorothy Sloan, a school teacher. She took dance lessons and would usually put on song and dance numbers for her family.
Early life and Career
She studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute when she was seven. She first started trying to get commercials but eventually focused on film and theater. Her first theater appearance was in an Off-Broadway play called Sophistry with Ethan Hawke. When she was nine, she appeared in her first film as John Ritter’s daughter in the comedy North.
She then kept on having minor roles as a child actress. She got her first lead as Amanda in the movie Manny & Lo (1996). Received accolades for her performance as Amanda and she was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Lead Female. She appeared in many other films during her teenage years. The most notable of which is her performance in the film The Horse Whisperer (1998). She won a nomination at the Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Actress.
When she was 17, she took on more mature roles, the most notable of which are Lost in Translation and Girl with the Pearl Earring both in 2003. She received much praise and accolades for both of her performances. She was nominated both for the BAFTA Award and Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress This has cemented her reputation in Hollywood as one of the most versatile and talented actresses.

Marvel Cinematic Universe
Johansson was cast as Black Widow in Iron Man 2 (2010) as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). She worked out and did strength and stunt training in preparation for the role. She received positive reviews for her performance and reprised the role for the following installments:
The Avengers (2012); Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014); Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015); Captain America: Civil War (2016) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
